The ref was awful, but he was just part of the bigger problem.

Previous 14 fights he reffed before Joshua were for fights over some title or another. Maybe he meant 4 major title fights (interpreted to mean IBF/WBC/WBA belts).

Sure is curious though that there are about 100 fights he's reffed and no-one noticed he has a tendency to break fighters early. Shouldn't Parker's people have looked at his past performances and picked that up ?

eg if I was in someone's corner and Laurence Cole was the referee, I would be asking him how he was going to handle low blows at least 100 times in the dressing room, and get someone to translate if he didn't speak English, else even learn the Italian for 'what you do with low blow ?' which would take me about 5 seconds.

That's a shame. Parker was such a good sport in the ring after the fight. Barry is still salty from Lewis kicking Tua's arse all those years ago and now losing his (probably last) shot again as a trainer in the biggest fight. Parker won 4 rounds. And when you lunge in with your head down to try to close that reach gap that you're talking about, you get tied up and the ref steps in. The ref was ****, I give you that, but your guy just wasn't doing enough. Glad Parker took the loss knowingly and classily after. He's a top notch boxer.

Eddie's refs don't need to master the English language.

As long as they can speak the word "yes," he loves them.

Ref was terrible and prevented a bad fight from having any chance to get more interesting. I don’t think a better ref was likely to alter the outcome but he took away Parker’s only hope. Should definitely rematch at some point. Parker should go after Wilder

I really do not like excuses after defeats. I may not like Wilder but one thing I like about him is, he does not give excuse or excuses for not doing the right thing
