Did the ref do David Price a favour?

I watched the fight and at first thought giving Povetkin the standing 8 instead of letting David in for the kill was a bit off....David certainly jumped for him...but on reflection he might have been saved from a far worse beating on another night.
Thoughts?
By the way....that last shot from Povetkin kind of reminded me of the Mayweather Ortiz sucker punch...even though Povetkin didnt sucker him.

They didnt....he was nowhere near the ropes when he got hit and was reeling backwards when the ref stepped between them.

I haven't seen the fight but if Price lasted 5 rounds and scored a knockdown he did much better than I thought he would.
