The translation is that they want this to go away so they can keep on making money. They do have to pretend to be a governing body maintaining the best interests of the sport however as it's this pretence that enables them to keep on charging hundreds of thousands of dollars for sanctioning fees.
So journalists are told the investigation is underway and it would be inappropriate to comment until the results are in.Comment

He shouldn't have said what he did and it was in poor taste. But it's an act. As others have said boxing has a history of guys saying they try to kill an opponent but it's almost always used as an intimidation technique with no real truth behind it.
