  • Comments Thread For: Joe Gallagher Calls For More Unannounced Drug Tests All Year

After the recent news that Canelo Alvarez tested positive for banned drug clenbuterol, trainer Joe Gallagher has argued why boxing needs to introduce stricter testing. Gallagher was speaking about Liam Smith's World Title challenge against Sadam Ali on May 12th, where 'Beefy' can win back the belt he lost to Canelo in September 2016.

Totally fair. I hope Ali takes no offense to these comments. They are legit. PEDs need to go away. If it means more testing and les moving up for fighters, so be it. Better than losing a sports figure to a doped up boxer.

Who's paying for it? Who's doing it? Are commissions all over the world going to consider a dirty result a dirty result or nah?

Too many problems with doing anything like this widely cuz boxing is too compartmentalized.

Bout the only thing you can do is what the Clean Boxing Program is doing & I think one other group is jumping on with testing ranked fighters & titles holders. If you could get all 4 major belts to join together with one program they all worked together to pay for & test with their combined resources that would be ideal. Get popped & you are out of the ratings for x period of time & lose your belt if you got one. If commissions wanna deal with you or not, fair play either way cuz you won't get 100% agreement with that. Have a similar deal where if you miss 3 tests in some defined period of time & you lose your ranking or belt.

But good luck to get this sorted out in any sensible way anytime soon.

We need more testing? Nah, we need more guns in the hands of the testers.

Did you read the Ring article on the clean boxing program it basically said it was the WBC's way of making money off VADA ? So maybe something similar but not owned by a belt organisation is needed possibly as you have suggested

UKAD seems to have money for year round testing in the UK but that is government funded which probably isn't practical in other countries.

Nah I didn't. How is the WBC making money off of Vada? I thought they would have to pay Vada for using them.

But you are gonna need something like that cuz its a HUGE ask to have commissions to do testing. And then there are so many more commissions so getting them all on board is gonna be wayyyyyy harder than getting 4 ABC Groups on board.

Idk, but I think thats about the best we can hope for right now with the ABC Groups taking the lead with PED stuff.

and strict enforcement. If you're caught you're out. None of this temporary suspended pending further investigations.
