Comments Thread For: Warren: Not Sure Saunders Would Be Ready For GGG By May 5

With Canelo Alvarez temporarily suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, his May 5th rematch with Gennady Golovkin is in jeopardy. The Mexican superstar tested positive for banned drug clenbuterol twice and is now required to appear at a commission hearing on April 10th. Golovkin's camp have discussed bringing in Billy Joe Saunders as a replacement in case Canelo is banned. Saunders, who recently injured his hand, insists that he won't be treated as a back-up plan.

Dan Rafael is the biggest name in boxing journalism. I know he has detractors, but he doesn't get anything out of being proven wrong. He doesn't think the fight is happening based on a number of factors. Canelo 6 month suspension.

BJS will be ready May 5th if the price is right, I am not convinced he was ever really injured.

Very good points, plus if bjs was already training for Murray before this "injury" he should still be in fairly good shape weightwise. To be ready may 5th and he said himself recently he'll fight golovkin so it could happen.

Canelo has taken a year away from GGG's career the little c***. I just want the fight to go ahead May 5th, it would be wrong because Canelo should get a year like everyone does on that s***.

They better take it if Canelo stays suspended and the offer comes across the table. You don't get these shots everyday.

Explosive matchup. Saunders is such a jerk . I mean that in an entertaining way. He gets under peoples skin. Abel Sanchez will be doing most of the return fire outside the ring.

Agreed. I don't think Saunders is very confident about fighting Golovkin, but I'll bet this is his best opportunity. If Golovkin fights Canelo in Sept, he may lose. If BJS gets an opportunity now, he should do it while GG still has the aura of being undefeated. A young, hungry fighter would certainly grab it. I'm not sure that Billy has that hunger anymore.

Saunders pulling out was a tactical manoeuvre IMO. Murray only getting older, and it means his fight date is closer to a potential Canelo / GGG fight so recent activity plays a role.

I'm sure they'll find a way for his 'injury' to heal extra special fast if the money is right for a GGG fight
