What was the main reason for why Canelo Alvarez back peddled as much against Golovkin

Was it because of Gennady Golovkin's punching power or because Canelo Alvarez lacked stamina to be active more frequently?

Because he could counter him and land the bigger shots and could make him miss a huge amount of punches. Anyone would settle for a landed jab against them compared to power shots.

Canelo is a counter puncher and GGG comes forward. It’s simple. It’s like saying why GGG didn’t throw body shots. Or why Canelo doesnt throw as many shots as Margarito.

Canelo fought that way because it was effective. Likewise for GGG. They both fought good fights and tried to minimize the best in the other.

Canelo’s stamina is clearly good enough to “back peddle” so it’s not stamina related. “Back peddling” takes a lot of energy. I dont get it. :/

Does Lara fight in the backfoot because he has no stamina?

    Styles make fights.

Both options 1 and 2 would apply here.

Canelo was beating him on speed and seemed to think he was beating him on defense. Thing is, you don't win on defense. Canelo did what Peterson did to Garcia and became so enamored with his own skill and being the better boxer that he didn't put in the output he should have.

His corner knew he was ***ing up but he didn't listen to them.

You notice Canelo and Jacobs fighting differently then they normally do? That's because of Golovkin's pressure.

Mainly because his stamina is poor, in my opinion.

Back peddling takes less energy than going forward and throwing punches. Lara often runs to avoid getting hit just as Canelo did. Both Lara and Canelo stopped back peddling and landed good punches occasionally in their respective fights with each other and GGG. That doesn't change that Lara retreated most of the fight with Canelo and Canelo retreated much of the fight with GGG. When Canelo fought Lara he went forward every second of every round. He fought GGG completely differently because of GGG's power and work rate.

Canelo doesn't usually fight like that. He got hit with something he didn't like.
