  • Comments Thread For: Chavez Sr: Decision To Suspend Canelo Until April 10 is Ridiculous!

Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. is shaking his head at the recent decision by the Nevada State Athletic Commission - which issued an order last Friday to temporarily suspend Canelo Alvarez until a hearing date of April 10. Canelo is still scheduled to to face IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC Gennady Golovkin on May 5th, from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

It may be unfair to ask everyone to wait for a decision, but Golovkin is fighting on May 5 no matter what. I really don't think this is affecting his training.

I think it would be a distraction.
Not knowing if you will be fighting your opponent would have to be.
Even if GGG still fights on may 5th he would still want to know who its against as quickly as possible.

I totally see where Chavez is coming from and he's right. It interferes with both fighters' camps, there's a ton of money at hand..for the fighters, promotional companies, Vegas, etc. We all know the fight is most likely still gonna happen. It would be a shock if they don't fight. There's no need for the charades. Boxing is corrupt and everyone knows that. The more you try to sweep it under the rug, the bigger the bruise on the sport. If Golovkin is still down to fight, then have the fight. If not, cancel it and move on.

That would suck if you booked tickets and hotels for this and you gotta tell your boss "Well...the politics of boxing. I might need a few days off but I won't know until April 10th when the hearing goes down." haha

Good words Chavez Sr. those were well needed at this point in time of our boxing lives ... But seriously what does suspending Canelo until April 10th accomplish. If they are going to suspend him get it over with already otherwise let the fight continue and just test Canelo every single day until the day of the fight because you never know when that sneaky mofo will slip some Mexican meat right passed you without anyone knowing!! Also for extra measure make Canelo do same-day weigh in so he won't have a weight advantage.... I can't think of anything else.... I'm done...

This is silly to wait until April 10th. What are they waiting for?? To test Canelo a few more times 1st??

Let’s be honest, this fight isn’t getting cancelled. Nothing to see here, it’s still on come may 5th! Let’s go!!!!

Chavez Sr is right, they should make a decision right away, cancel the fight even if they have to but they cant seem to want the money to elsewhere.

Let's be honest here, Goldenboy has always planned for this to be a trilogy. Everything since the first fight points towards a trilogy. Before the first bell even rang all they spoke about was about how this had the potential to become a trilogy. I hate to sound skeptical here but it all seems like this has been maneuvered towards that direction. The bogus draw, the controversy in the rematch setting the stage for another controversial decision. I hope we get a convincing win in the rematch but without a doubt they're going to squeeze out another one. Can't blame them, it is a solid match up but I'd much rather it played out organically rather than the unnecessary build up.
