The state boxing commissions have the final say in who gets to fight in their state.
If the WBC had any power in Nevada, Alvarez would be fighting on May 5th.

But the states never really took the power you speak of in the past is why early on I was expecting nothing to come of this. I mean we've seen it with big names a few times and it never went down like this time when there was a built in excuse.

Although looking at it with more knowledge the trend was heating up cuz Wilder had two questionable enough PED situations I think in years past woulda been much ado about nothing.

Good point, the state commissions are weak and usually bow to outside interests (promoters, alphabets etc)
In boxing things are never clear cut. When it comes to drug testing, there's hardly any consistency or transparency in the process.
This time, it was the publicity and fan interest that forced Nevada to do the right thing and suspend Alvarez.
