Comments Thread For: Frampton Slams Quigg, Not Buying His Excuse For Missing Weight

Carl Frampton is not buying the excuses from Scott Quigg - who failed to make weight for a world title fight with WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez. In a contest which took place earlier this month in Los Angeles, Quigg came in at nearly three pounds over the featherweight limit of 126-pounds. A deal was reached for the contest to move forward, but Quigg blew off a same day weigh-in the following morning - which enraged Valdez and his handlers.

In the end, talent was the difference but I think it was extremely unfair to Valdez, who was clearly at a size disadvantage. Frampton's line about Quig's techniques being all based in size bullying are dead on the money. If he didn't plan to come in huge, he sire chose an unusual way to fight that fight. I think Quigg planned to come in big but still make weight, and when draining down became an issue he quit trying.

I think the only way to resolve this issue between Quigg and Frampton is to fight it out .... On a serious note though if the champion or Challenger is worried about their opponents weight it should be negotiated in the contract and docked money for every pound over weight. Or simply the sanctioning bodies should go back to same day weigh ins or each fighters weight shouldn't reach the next weight class limit on fight night. To me personally these guys know about weight advantages and what guys beat the system if they accept the fight it's on them. But don't make excuses when you knew beforehand.

Talent won but you don't last long fighting guys this much bigger than you...Long term at least. I watched a boxing movie recently with Cuba Gooding Jr. And he fought some dude way bigger it was done up Hollywood style but the sht wasnt lying.

Quigg did have to cough up more money but why make a guy have to make a decision like that the night before a big fight??? If he didn't fight all that money he spent was for free....

              Quigg is an sshole!

Disrespected the sport, his opponent and his own fans!

He knew if he came and tried to make weight that Valdez would've stopped him!

There needs to be more penalties for obvious weight bullies, look what happened to Valdez!

The kid likely got some time took off his career from this fight and may never be the same again!

If anything, Tank Davis should fight Quigg since he clearly can make 130, ***ing gobsh!+

Didn't Frampton miss weight against that Mexican fighter he was supposed to fight last November I think...?? The Mexican who fell in the shower and broke his front teeth...
IDK why Frampton is complaining about it. He's missed weight in the past too...

You're comparing a guy who was one pound over in a non-title fight, to a guy coming in three pounds overweight for a nationally televised world title fight and then blowing off an agreed-upon second day weigh-in?
