Comments Thread For: Roach Impressed With Jose Ramirez, Wants to Improve Defense

This past Saturday night, Jose Ramirez picked up his biggest career win to date, when he won a solid twelve round unanimous decision over Amir Imam, who was viewed as a very live opponent. By defeating Iman, Ramirez (who improved to 22-0, 16 KO's) captured the vacant WBC 140-pound belt. The title opened up after Terence Crawford moved up to the welterweight division.

Jose Ramirez should have finished Imam. He's a good fighter not great with his style I don't see him lasting as champion for long. But then again I don't see any fighter outside of Mikey Garcia as having staying power as champion which makes the 140 pound division interesting.

"We need to work on his defense a little bit more. He got hit a little bit too much, stayed in the pocket a little bit too long, got hit with those uppercuts and hooks. But other than that, he's going to do OK."

Actually Freddie, the Jabs were connecting pretty well for about 8 rounds! So other than getting hit with jabs, hooks, and uppercuts, pretty consistently, his defense wasn't that bad. Lol!

Ramirez showed he can take the best shots from anyone and keep coming, Imam one of the hardest hitters out there. Ramirez can straight out work anyone and if you watch the fight high ring IQ as he figures Imam out. Imam is very good and Ramirez won every round. Very tough combination to beat for any fighter.
