One of all time great fights.
Made Chavez a God like hero in Mexico.
It turned Taylor into a b level fighter and he was never the same.

Taylor's lucky the fight wasn't 15 rounds, or he might have died.

If Richard Steele doesn't wave the fight off, that victory alone likely puts Taylor in the hall of fame. His career would've ended up the same, because the fight destroyed him, but he would've at least made it to the hall of fame and had the satisfaction he deserved.

But damn, unless your Mexican that ending stoppage was really hard to watch. I know it was a bad knockdown but **** it should have went the distance. was it like 3-5 seconds or something for fight to end. He should have seen the final bell imo, but i can understand the hero like ending it gave Chavez coming back with that big punch

Taylor deserved the opportunity to continue. Steele waived it off with 2 seconds left. Taylor was never the same but had it not been waived off, he would have won a split decision.

It was heartbreaking to see Taylor speak in the HBO legendary night documentary. He was saying that he was still the same fighter and could still become a champion. It actually made me reconsider watching boxing for a while.

Taylor had earned the right to finish out the fight.

Taylor could not answer Richard Steele. He ask twice Taylor did not answer back.
