Comments Thread For: Freddie Roach: Jose Ramirez is a Much Better Puncher Now

This coming Saturday night, renowned trainer Freddie Roach leads undefeated Jose Ramirez into battle against Amir Imam for the vacant WBC junior welterweight title at the Theater at New York's Madison Square Garden as the main event on ESPN. Roach says of Imam (21-1, 18 KO's) - "it's a tough fight, he's got a good right hand, good puncher."

He is but he also has to work on pacing himself a little better. He came out like a bat of hell against Reed. A better fighter would have let him blow his wad early and drown him in the deep.

This may be the sleeper fight of the weekend. Imam is good, but Ramirez is certainly no bum. I favor Ramirez to win it by grinding out a tough workman like performance. And if he stays consistently busy enough, like he's shown he can do in the past, he may even overwhelm Imam for a TKO late. True boxing fans need to watch this fight. I don't think it will be even remotely boring to check out.

        Great card this weekend.

Ramirez v Imam is the fight in the night obviously and having Verdejo, Pedraza and Diaz on the card is just icing on the cake.
