The fact it generated so much money makes it clear that even though it was garbage, people wanted to see it because it was a pop culture phenomenon.

Fact is more people paid $100 (about 4.4 mil) and more people streamed the fight illegally (another 4 mil) than the total that watched Manny/Horn.

is what it is. But lets not derail the thread.

"Has Manny Pacquiao decided to part ways with celebrated trainer Freddie Roach?

This question arose after the eight-division champion's camp released a press statement to the Philippine media about the boxer's planned June 24 bout with World Boxing Association welterweight titlist Lucas Mathysse, and there was no mention at all about his longtime trainer.

Instead the press release, sent late Friday morning, specifically mentioned that "Restituto 'Buboy' Fernandez, Nonoy Neri and Roger 'Haplas' Fernandez will take charge once the training camp starts."

The statement also said that "Pacquiao will start his training in the middle of April in his own Wild Card Boxing Gym in General Santos City. Training will transfer to Manila from May 14 to June 1 then back to Gensan from June 2 until the second week of June."

Based on the statement, it appears Roach won't be in training camp or in Pacquiao's corner for the first time in nearly 17 years. The celebrated trainer had earlier admitted to the Los Angeles Times that he had tried several times to call Pacquiao but each time he was unable to get through..."

If he owes the tax money then he probably can't afford to hire Roach at this time. If he fights in Malaysia, no way he makes the kind of money he used to.

roach will be back when the big paydays are back.

Since it's already rolling, let's derail:

            The Sweet Science:

Floyd Mayweather defeated more ranked welterweight contenders than Thomas Hearns (rankings by Ring/TBRB). He defeated more top five contenders than almost anyone outside the top ten... Mayweather defeated more lineal welterweight than Barney Ross. ..He made a past-prime Manny Pacquiao, his #1 contender at the weight, look like a journeyman. He defeated more #1 ranked fighters (champions or top rated contenders) than all but the most storied fighters. He only boxed three unranked men at the weight…He was one of the few men to become a two-time lineal world welterweight champion, and the only man to ever do it without losing a fight..”

The audio says that Freedie has tried to contact Pacquiao at least 5 times! It doesn't seem Roach backed out, and more like he wasn't invited!

Manny can't afford to pay Roach. Funny and sad!

I never said the fight would be great, or even good. I said it would be Manny getting beaten to a bloody pulp. Even better, Uncle Sam would take all his earnings to pay the taxes he owes.

I'd only be watching because Crawford would beat Manny into retirement and send him home beaten and without a dime. Not because it would be a good fight.
