  • Comments Thread For: Frankin Gavin Left Frustrated By Fight Cancellation

Birmingham's Frankie Gavin (25-3, 15 stoppages) will not meet Namibia-based Bethuel Ushona (36-5-1, 9 KOs) for the IBO welterweight title this month as the fight has been called off due to the loss of crucial sponsorship money.

Gavin hasn't been the same since getting stopped by Brook, might be time for him to cash out. He ought to sell Skeete on avenging his one loss

I was going to say the same thing. Gavin is probably the best amateur we've produced in the UK but struggled to show that in the professional ranks.

I'd like to see the Skeete rematch, I think Bradley will show how much he's progressed and Gavin's regressed since their original fight.

I think the writing was on the wall way before that, he just hasn’t taken this sport seriously. He’s a 140 lb fighter who’s to lazy to make the weight. I always remember him failing to even make weight for the 2008 Olympics where he was a heavy favourite to win the gold. Whatever talent he once had he’s wasted it now.
The Skeete rematch is an ok pay day if Skeete picks up the EBU belt, from the rumours I’ve heard though, Gavin is likely to be Kelly’s opponent for his homecoming fight in Newcastle in June.

Interesting, that's a fight I would enjoy seeing

He’s one of the best in recent years but he’s certainly not the best all time. D.ick McTaggart achieved way more in the amateur’s than Frankie he’s our best ever amateur IMO. I’d actually put Audley above Frankie as well tbh.

Yeah i'd agree with that. I'm talking more in the modern era but certainly a shame with how both Audley and Gavin's professional careers have gone.

Yeah I completely agree with what you say. I remember how he looked when he was overweight on the scales against Eggington in 2016. Such a shame.

Yeah Audley just could not adapt to the pro’s, he also had injuries as well which didn’t help him.
As for Gavin, he’s just completely wasted his potential. He believed his own hype, wasn’t dedicated enough, didn’t live the life and it’s cost him big time.

Yeah I remember when that fight got announced, and my first instinct was like Frankie schools him easily, then I remember seeing Frankie on the scales and it just looked like he had barely bothered even training or dieting and had just crashed the weight.
That fight was a great example of how talent can only take you so far.
