  • Comments Thread For: Sergey Kovalev, Dmitry Bivol to Return in July at MSG

Light heavyweight world champions Sergey Kovalev and Dmitry Bivol both scored emphatic victories this past weekend at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. And it looks like both will be returning to this facility for their next fights in the summer. "We're looking at July, there's a few dates they have available," said Main Events CEO Kathy Duva, who represents both light heavyweight belt-holders, to BoxingScene.com.

I think it's cute how HBO pairs guys together. Golovkin and Gonzalez, Kovalev and Bivol, Jacobs and Miller.

Duva named 4 options for Kovalev (Beterbiev, Jack, Stevenson, and Browne). All 4 are Haymon fighters. All 4 have no chance of happening. So we're probably looking at another Shabranskyy or Mikhalkin type fighter. Disappointing for Kovalev.

"Everything about what's possible and not the impossible,"s aid Duva, with a laugh.
F#cking Duva bringing her annoying laugh into stories now too. Wut the f#ck.

But sh^t fight each other. Thats what people are ready for. And she gots them both under her promotion. And she still dogs Haymon for not making the best fight the best & now she's trying to milk Kovalev vs Bivol which is a fun a$$ fight & never gonna be a PPV fight or get THAT much bigger than it is right now.

Fair play if she wants to build it up more with a July fight, but line them up for the end of the year at least ffs.

LOL right. And I don't think she seriously made a play at Kovalev vs Bivol THIS YEAR in that article. She said her matchmaker needs to get Bivol "a few fights" to raise his profile. Vs f#cking who? How you gonna raise his profile THAT much? Vs the same guys Kovalev is supposed to be fighting who are PBC guys & might not be makeable cuz you dog Haymon every other time you talk & don't seem all that intelligent to work with mfers in the first place?

Kovalev is 35 in a couple weeks. Give this mfer the biggest fights he can get. He's a sellable name still. And Bivol's future is gonna be built or not built on beating a guy like Kovalev or giving him a good fight even if he were to come up short. Thats the fight to make & idk the point in waiting til Kovalev gets older to make that fight & perhaps after he catches a L vs someone not as good as Bivol or something ****** like that goes down which can happens when a guy is in his mid 30's & beyond.

Why would those four fights have no chance of happening?
Yes, Haymon has a history of hindering Stevenson from taking part in significant matches, but there are plenty of PBC fighters that have been allowed to fight daunting opponents, on cards promoted by rival promoters, even on HBO.

I think it makes sense when its in different divisions. I think its ****** & counterproductive to do it with 2 guys in the same division. You are lining up guys to fight without actually lining them up to fight.

If they line them up for July as a mini tournament to fight each other, assuming both win, in Nov/Dec fair play, but if they are just gonna do a year+ of the Kovalev & Bivol show I don't see the point. Neither of these guys is gonna get magically super popular anytime soon. Kovalev is probably past his peak popularity right now as a foreign guy in the US who's had a couple PPV fights vs a US Olympian. Bivol isn't likely to gain more popularity til he beats a guy like Kovalev.

These f#cking promoters always trying to have their cake & eat it to. Duva's doing the same sh^t GYM did (w/Beterbiev + Stevenson & probably why Beterbiev left) & what he's accusing Haymon of doing by not having his best guys fight (I speculate Haymon was being too manager-ish with guys & with no promoter behind fighters who's going to make the big fights outside of the fighters wanting to fight each other exactly when both sides wanted it to happen).
