I read an article of some people broke into a home, took residence, and when the owners came home they weren't able to get them off the property legall or something like that. Is that a thing or am I misinformed?

What did Billy Joe do that's so bad lol?
Not just in the UK, here in USA, that is an issue.

All they have to do is show the cops some sort of lease/contract they can literally print off themselves, and then it is a civil issue, where the rightful owner has to godown to civil court, and initiate the eviction process.

If the squatter really knows the law, and how to take advantage of the courts, they can draw this process out to up to 90 days or more!

    It can be a nightmare.

A simple youtube search will reveal some of these cases. Even the news gets involved and confronts the squatters and they boldly talk to the news.
