[Tainted Meat] Nobody believed Erik Morales so...

Remember when Morales tested positive for Clenbuteral in the 2nd Garcia fight? Nobody believed he was clean so why are people believing Canelo? I remember people laughing at Morales like anybody would believe that.

Two good articles on the subject @

Looks to me like some people get so high on a fighter they'll believe anything that supports the fantasy.

Testing started early and Canelo got caught using a PED that could help him. Only 1/4 of Mexican slaughter houses are pushing that meat so it's not like it's ALL meat. Too many holes in the story for me to believe it.

He thought it would be out of his system by the time the testing started. In fact, I believe he probably had personal doctors test him and confirm that it was out of his system before testing started. This system has probably worked for him in recent years as he knows exactly when he will be fighting (and only twice per year with time to cycle on and off in between fights). Canelo is a multi-millionaire who takes his profession very seriously. He is not naive and just eating beef from anywhere he pleases in Mexico. This is a guy with a staff of professionals, most likely has a personal chef and nutrition specialist. I'm not buying his bulls*t but there is a reason he and others use Clenbuterol besides its benefits...if you get caught there is a nice excuse already built in.

I agree mostly, not so much your last sentence. It's not that common in my experience --- only a small amount of fighters have tried using it as an excuse. I think Povetkin tried too lol. I didn't think people still used Clenbuterol anymore.

Here, we end up with this dog-ate-my-homework type of excuse and everyone thinks (Canelo) was doing drugs. It is plausible that he did not intentionally cheat. Nobody can say for sure if there was intent or not. He could have used Clenbuterol for three months and there are still traces in his body. Or he could have eaten tainted meat.

But these are multi-million-dollar athletes. I’d be shipping in fresh meat from someone other than Mexico. They had to know this was a possibility.
