  • Comments Thread For: Wilder's Trainer: I Was Worried in 7th, But Deontay Digs Deep

Jay Deas, the trainer and co-manager of WBC heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder (40-0, 39 KOs), admits he was worried last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. During the seventh round of his seventh world title defense, Wilder was in the fight of his life when Cuban challenger Luis Ortiz had him in serious trouble in the final minute of the fight.

Well you guys looked very calm in the corner, which was great for Wilder confidence. Sometimes you got to let your fighter ride the tidal waves.

Wilder, like any Heavyweight in history, showed vulnerability. However, not many have been able to weather a storm vs a skilled and strong opponent. This wasn't like he got dropped by a light puncher. He was hit cleanly multiple times by a skilled, strong, motivated and powerful opponent.

Wilder did well. Not sure how he would hold up vs Joshua if that hurt, but Joshua has shown the same vulnerability himself. Joshua seems to tire a lot more late as Wilder shows he can carry his power and composure late in fights. Joshua showed that as well vs Wlad late.

Wilder vs Joshua isn't a good heavyweight vs a bad heavyweight. It is a matchup between two big, powerful and vulnerable Heavyweights for the undisputed championship of the world assuming Joshua gets by Parker. I think that's a recipe for a great and important HW fight.

Hell yea man. I really hope we get a big unification match before the year is over. I don't know much about Wilders trainer, but they seem to have a good relationship, and he has a nice calm cool collective approach.

Wilder needs a better trainer that'll keep him more fundamentally sound. He's winning off power right now but if he had somebody to teach him the basics he'd be better off and can improve even more. Wilder needs to stop rushing in so reckless and just take his time and set up a good clean punch rather than throwing those windmills lol But it was a great fight Wilder is still a beast regardless of his flaws just needs a trainer that can keep him a little more disciplined with his attack.

What's the average for the main event? Break out the numbers by the fight if possible.

***Wait was the fight over at 11:29pm? I see what's going on there now. Disregard the above post lol looks like you're showing the fight averaged over 1 million viewers.
