Wilder might have been fine without the extra 18 seconds recovery time but it certainly didn't hurt him and may have helped him survive. When a boxer hurts a guy he wants to hurt him some more as soon as possible. Every second counts because he is recovering.

Wilder already had 1 minute , calling timeout after the break only gives him more time to recover which is unfair to the guy trying to knock him out.

The ref and docs could have checked him in between the round.

They were clearly trying to buy wilder more time.
