Past it fighters and not closing the show against younger guys.

Pacquiao in the 9th against Horn
Wlad in the 6th against Joshua
    Ortiz in the 7th Wilder

It really proves the point of "When you are older, you can't pull the trigger as better when you were younger to finish it."

I thought Ortiz put it out there to end it in the 7th, but Wilder showed too much resolve.

Klitschko I felt made a bad strategical decision with thinking Joshua was dead to rites, as everyone thought just about, & went the overly careful way that he was accustomed to with winning the fight. Hugely backfired on him, but wasn't about him not being able to pull the trigger. He choose not to pull the trigger.

it's not just the big round when they rocked Joshua/Wilder, but it's the round(s) following it, both Joshua/Wilder were still on wobbly legs and Ortiz/Klitch already blew their load in the previous round and were running on fumes.

I was a bit surprised that Wilder was able to recompose himself in the 8th and the fact he was able to smother without falling down in the 7th.

I don't think you get what that means. He was definitely pulling the trigger he just couldn't finish him. Ortiz reflexes were good. Just look at his counters and not just that but he counters stepping forward instead of just waiting.

Wlads last two fights are good examples of a fighter that can't pull the trigger anymore.

That's a very solid observation. It seems like killer instinct may really go away with age. All three of them looked to be the more polished, sound boxer but all three missed their chance to close the show.

Wilder-Ortiz was the most exaggerated instance of this. Wilder looked almost like he had no business in the same ring at times and in the 7th looked even more finished than Horn or AJ were.
