Purse For Deontay Wilder vs Luis Ortiz

    Deontay Wilder 2.1million

    Luis Ortiz 500k

I cannot believe Ortiz is only getting 500k. Makes you wonder why he chased the Wilder fight when he was AJ's mandatory and Hearn confirmed back in August 2017 that AJ would fight Ortiz after Pulev.. Pulev pulled out and Takam got the fight for 5million, so Ortiz could have potentially got 5mill to fight AJ.

You guys gotta stop taking these listed purses as gospel. There are all sorts of games played with the filed numbers. I'm not saying every fight is inaccurate, but enough are that you can't go by the filed numbers.

Unless you believe Cotto only got 750k for his retirement fight?

Ortiz get a much bigger payday with AJ if he has the WBC belt.

These are listed are thier guaranteed purse. I know pretty much every fighter gets more money on the back end to avoid tax but it's a good barometer to gauge what each guy earns. The fact that Ortiz is only guaranteed 500k means he isn't getting much for this fight (even if you take into account that money that is not declared to the public) Ortiz isn't getting much at all.

What's listed is simply what's listed. Their guarantee can be far higher, but all sorts of financial trickery is done to minimize taxes, sanctioning fees, trainer fees, etc. A lot of guys have shell companies set up and then they pay themselves their "purse" from the vanity promotional company that's been set up. Or they're given TV rights to certain territories so they can hide the revenue from selling those rights. I really don't want to get into all the technical details of some of the other tricks on a public forum, but the point is simply that filed numbers can be wildly misleading.

You could be right, you could be wrong. My point is simply that there's no way to know.

Ortiz’s purse probably affected by failed test with first fight too
