Yes, that's very true. But Ortiz started so late that lying about his age wouldn't have gained him that advantage.

If he's 38 or 42 he still has his amateur fights and pro fights to draw off. The legs go first so it will be interesting to see if Wilder comes to him or if Wilder makes him move forward.
Very intriguing match up unless his legs are completely gone.

his legs are gone judging by his last couple of fights. although maybe he can roll back the clock as its his biggest fight.

In J. O. Boxing (Junior Olympics 12 to 16 yrs) or Junior Division Open Class (below 19 yrs) is their an advantage to lie about age.
Once you are an Open Class competitor it makes no difference how old you are!
Ortiz was a very good heavy in the amateur Cuban program but internationally he never won any major tourney's out side of Cuba'
            s in house competition.

Bingo! This is the fatal flaw in the conspiracy theory that Ortiz is really 50 years old. It would mean he didn't go pro until 43 and was actually in his late 30s in amateur tournaments where we can clearly see he looks like a young man in his mid 20s.
