Comments Thread For: Whyte: I Saw Wilder KO'd in Gym, But Ortiz is 1,000 Years Old

British contender Dillian Whyte is the top rate contender to WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (39-0, 38 KOs). Whyte is going to be a very interested observer when Wilder defends his title this Saturday night, against undefeated Luis Ortiz (28-0, 24 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Deontay Wilder may be one of the hardest hitters in world boxing - but Dillian Whyte fears the American's inability to take a punch could derail his hopes of meeting Anthony Joshua in a heavyweight super-fight.

Whyte, who was beaten by AJ in December 2015, fears for the Bronze Bomber this weekend after seeing him dropped in sparring.

'Ortiz stands a very good chance because Deontay Wilder can't take a punch,' he said ahead of his own heavyweight showdown against Lucas Browne on March 24.

'I've seen Wilder spar, I've seen him get knocked out in sparring before, but I don't tell sparring stories. I saw him get dropped in sparring before, but sparring's sparring. Marvin Hagler used to get dropped in sparring a lot, Mike Tyson got dropped in sparring.'

He added: 'It's a really good fight, but there's two problems for Luis Ortiz. At the top level he's been inactive for the past two or three years. Wilder's been very active, he might not have fought top guys but they've still been decent guys with decent records.

'The second problem is (Ortiz) has got to be about 1,000 years old. When you look at it, he has very good skills and very good punching power, but I just think his inactivity is going to be his downfall.'

'I had a meeting with (Showtime chief) Stephen Espinoza last week, talking about AJ, and the landscape, and there is real appetite for Wilder to fight the winner of that fight (Whyte-Browne), if they don't make the AJ fight next,' he said.

'I can see the AJ fight happening towards the end of the year. I would love to get that fight in the interim, perhaps June or July, and the general consensus is Wilder's run out of opponents.
He says I don't tell sparring story's then goes on to tell one smdh. And when was this back when he was just starting with Klich.

Boy I hope your right(about Ortiz getting KOed by Wilder). And its just sparring and he was a novice at time. And I have never heard any story's about Hagler getting KOed in sparring but if true just goes to show that these guys don't get turned on for EVERY sparring session. Its a little different at the Am level but with these pro's its like another day at office and we ALL KNOW we don't show up for work at 100% every day or even every week.

I was just going to say this. Zero self-awareness. He gets obliterated by Joshua too and then started telling people how he expected him to be stronger and he wasn't as strong as people say. Like, brother, your ass is being recorded when things happen.

Yea its like those 'BEST I EVER FACED"story's have you ever seen someone say the hardest hitter was someone that KOed them?No its always some club fighter that they beat. But admitting you lost in boxing is WAYYYYYY different then any other sport its like admitting that guy is more man than you.Its not easy thing to say.BTW I still like them story's just not the hardest hitter part lol.

                Exactly.

Apart from Joshua, Whyte is yet to fight anyone decent.
