It’s been a very crazy week of boxing. The impact of Sanchez and his remarks will certainly boost PPV as many now will want Alvarez to win in devastating fashion. So either Abel was genius and got lucky or its a weird situation.
Abel Sanchez recently said that black fighters don’t sell, that the sweet science is dead. He also clarified himself on the behavior of a black fighter outside the ring is the reason why black fighters don’t sell.
Many boxing fans are taking Abel’s statements out of context since he’s being truthful on how to sell a fighter, which inevitably has cost him some credibility given the huge following of 300k boxing fans that follow new media, and many of them being black American fans.
Abel also admitted that fighters need publicists and strategists to sell a fighter. Now we know, why for years, Abel and HBO had invested certain narratives for Golovkin in order to sell him, along with coaching him for what to say on camera, while Loeffler was also pushing hard and paying external media to attract Golovkin. Given how Loeffler routinely brings up what “HBO wanted,” it is easy to assume that HBO has been the driving force tor Golovkin.
People have liked Golovkin for how he was coached to act a certain way, and forced to be limited with his English. We saw a similar formula in Pacquiao which most likely what HBO had advised Loeffler and Abel on what to do. Again, always ratings.
I also think Crawford had been coached by Top Rank as well, but I feel Crawford and Golovkin are the same types of character behind the scenes. They’re not what they seem to be.
