  • Comments Thread For: Shinsuke Yamanaka Deserved Better

By Cliff Rold - By the time many are reading this, the results will likely be in. Thursday in Japan, the early morning hours for fans in the US, the rematch between Mexico's undefeated 23-year old Luis Nery (25-0, 19 KO) and Japan's 35-year old former bantamweight titlist Shinsuke Yamanaka (27-1-2, 19 KO). It was supposed to be Nery's second defense of the WBC belt he won from Yamanaka last August...

I agree completely that this is a joke missing weight. I will say this though wtf is a fighter living in Mexico to do cut meat completely? Thats suicide for a fighter,if nery wanted to lose weight these substances would have the opposite effect as their used to add bulk not lose weight,if hed popped for diuretics or amphetamines then id believe hes dirty.(unless he's working with heroidia??)

Nery should be stripped of the title in the first fight after a positive result. Like JMM he was a cheat the reason why JMM did not do the rematch with Pac was he knew he was being watched and will get caught. Well you know WBC is Mexico.

Good article. Yamanaka does deserve better. This tacit acceptance of failed drug tests needs to stop. Penalties that serve as deterrents should be imposed. But the bottom line is boxing is a dirty business - barely a "sport" + where money talks and the self-serving, self-appointed "sanctioning" bodies are corrupt.

I was wondering where that writer was taking that too. Except he didnt take it anywhere lol. There are vegan fighters, though i am not insisting anyone should be told the cannot eat meat in mexico like this fool. Its obviously a meat problem and their government should get on top of it for everyone that lives there. Cant be the safest meat. Go organic is an option maybe. Idk lol

No excuse for Nery not making weight especially coming in at 1 to 1 didn't put much of an effort into it.

Tokyo's ahead of the East Coast by 14 hours

The WBC was not involved in Marquez-Pacquaio IV or any Marquez fights after. In fact the WBC was only ever involved in three Marquez fights - Barrera, Juarez, Pacquaio II. The WBC was also trying to not let Marquez fight for their title against Barrera until De La Hoya said if they don't sanction it he won't fight for their belt in the Mayweather fight.

Also, if you think Marquez cheated against Pacquaio isn't it likely he just leveled the playing field? Pacquaio was about as suspect as any fighter alive at that point.
