Comments Thread For: Lomachenko's Manager Discusses The Jorge Linares Situation

As of now, it looks like a showdown between WBA lightweight champion Jorge Linares and two-time Olympic gold medal winner Vasyl Lomachenko will not be taking place on May 12th due to a conflict involving dueling broadcasts on HBO and ESPN. On the conflicted date, HBO is airing the re-broadcast of the Gennady Golovkin-Saul Alvarez pay-per-view bout from the week before.

Doesn’t Top rank want Loma to be a superstar. Loma vs Beltran is a weak as Garcia vs Lipinets. Both are moving up for a meaningless belt in higher weight class. It’s about names, not belts.

This was the plan all along. I mean damn, how many times has Arum done this??? Drop a name, "negotiate", and then blame the other side for something known from the beginning. Did Arum not know that Canelo was fighting G on May 5th and that hbo would show the replay a week later on May 12th? Everybody knew this. And when everything else is agreed to, suddenly that one thing scuttles it all and TR's fighter is fighting another TR fighter.

I still believe Linares will vacate his mandatory status and his ranking by that ABC to avoid facing Mikey on Showtime. Linares is Mikey's mandatory, but they both have a belt. Linares will still have his belt, if he refuses and walks away. Forcing Mikey to either fight him on hbo or to just jump to ww without unifying.

Loma may fight Linares in the future, but not this year. Outside of Loma, Mikey, and Linares there is really no one else of meaning at lw. Which means Loma isn't going to be in any fight anyone cares about for a long time. And when he does, it may very well be Linares, who isn't any kind of big name anyway. Linares is a higher risk with a lower reward. Most don't know Beltran from Linares. A belt is a belt. That's the TR way. Take the easy way. Take the in-house fight. It works, the fighter can say he wants the fight, Arum takes the heat for making up some pure b.s., and TRs best fighter finds another extremely easy route to another title.

What a waste of a fight if it in Madison Square Garden. The Garden is only for important meaningful fights. Not crap like Loma vs Beltran.

Blame GBP, they'd rather pair the Golovkin vs. Canelo replay with Smith vs. Sadam Ali instead of Loma vs. Linares...

But the best choice would be to have Loma vs. Linares before they air the Canelo vs. GGG replay.

They should put Loma vs Linares in the GGG vs Canelo 2 undercard. Win win for everyone. Loma gets more fans to see him.
