    Yawn.

yes they are. theyre down to one champion in many divisions. when they get down to one champion, they dont get rid of the world championship, they get rid of the super title. which is a different belt design.
They added a second champion at heavyweight and welterweight in the last 3 months. They are adding a second champion at cruiserweight and light flyweight in the next month. They are rumored to be adding a second champion at super featherweight the month after that. They aren't getting rid of anything.

The ‘regular’ title doesn’t hold credibilty in the eyes of most boxing fans. I’d probably have it on par with the WBC Silver title..

First of all, just because they're adding some titles doesn't mean they aren't eliminating others.

Oquendo is owed, by court order, a shot at the WBA world heavyweight title. Not the super title. They had to crown a world champion in order to fulfill their obligation to Oquendo. Even if Oquendo was willing to fight for the super title instead, fans would have been outraged if AJ had been ordered to fight Oquendo.

Tewa Kiram had been owed a title shot for a very long time and with Thurman injured, they crowned a world champion rather than an interim champion. This is because they're trying to first get rid of all of the interim titles, and then after that, get rid of all of the super titles. They are not getting rid of the world title. The title Charr has is the title that will remain.

There are a million valid reason to criticize the WBA. They should be criticized for adding some of these titles. That doesn't justify lying though and saying they aren't getting rid of anything. That's a lie. Look at the number of champions now. Look at the number of champions two years ago. It's a world of difference.

why adding belts, when you want to get rid of them? the Oquendo/Charr and Matthysse/Kiram situation was understandable somewhat.

But why creating a new wba super title for melindo vs taguchi?

And if they declare lebedev the champ in recess, why not just get rid of the super title and make him the mandatory to the wba?
Did they have to "upgrade" the dorticos vs gassiev winner to super champ?

Now we have two garbage fights between below average fighters fighting for the wba title again.

And when was the last time they got rid of a wba super title? Last I believe was Kovalev vs Ward, but that was more due to luck, because ward retired after his win.

If the winner of barrera vs Bivol is going to unify against Kovalev and they upgrade the winner to super champ again, they wont ever get rid of all the super titles.

            http://www.espn.com/blog/dan-rafael/...mber-of-titles

Thats the first article I can find about WBAs intention to get rid of the multiple titles, dated Jan 20 2016.

Since then they got rid of the
            105, 122, 130, 140, 175,
even though 140 was due to crawford moving up and 175 due to ward retiring.

Because promoters with influence desperately want them to.

your goddamn right he is, Diamond boy got playahaters shook for real. Shoot him 5 times? comes back stronger. KO'd by a cruiserweight cold? comes back stronger and wins the world title baby. Division is on notice. line them up and we knock them down.
