  • Comments Thread For: Eddie Hearn: Final Must Be Groves-Smith, Even In January 2019

Eddie Hearn has said that he doesn't care when the World Boxing Super Series final is. The promoter of Callum Smith, the WBC Diamond champion who booked his place in the Ali Trophy showpiece at super-middleweight on Saturday with an underwhelming display against late replacement Nieky Holzken, believes it doesn't matter when it happens as long as right fighters are in it.

I think braehmer should have been giving time then to make up for groves injury and not the shítty fight put up between smith and the retired kickboxer

An obvious statement to be honest. If they don't let groves recover then I doubt any more of these tournaments will go ahead

Not overly important we’ve got the final we wanted and needed. Braehmer is way past his best and last time I saw him against Energy Eddie he was cheating to get by doing that ugly ducking at the waist shyt like when Povetkin was grossly out of shape against Hück. Glad Braehmer couldn’t fight and get a payday last night, he’s no business at this weight or going to make any kind of impression at light heavy, dude should retire or keep facing creme puffs in Germany where they still fill arenas to see him face absolute nobodies for regular and interim titles masquerading as a ‘champion’.

Hopefully not. If they can extend the tournament by 1 month, that should be more than enough.

Yea that makes sense if we are waiting 11 more months to find the winner.

I think a couple weeks or even a couple months isn't THAT bad, but ultimately I wanna see this finals happen before the second season starts.

The tournament format in its truest sense is about being fit enough to compete as the event was laid out. And this event has had a schedule for each round before anyone was entered into it.

Would suck for Groves. Would suck for fans. But thats how tournaments work & I got no problem with the WBSS sticking to a true tournament format vs some "I'll fight when I'm ready" bs. Once you open yourself up to that then you open yourself up to people faking injuries to avoid a fight or to try to get more money & just extra drama in general.

From a asses in seats POV I do get it doe cuz the WBSS isn't a charity. They are trying to make some money here too. Thus they want the two best guys to fight vs one best guy & a sub so its not like there isn't a middle ground here to aim for, but I think a reasonable middle ground should be the goal & I don't see January 2019 as reasonable.

I feel that Braehmer could have beaten Smith...

A final without Groves would be **** tho

They are already bankrolled for 2 or maybe 3 seasons iirc. Groves fighting or not fighting has no bearing on that.

And I'd argue the SMW tournament is the WBSS 4th place trophy compared to the CW tournament anyway. If the WBSS were to end over some Groves bs when the CW tournament has been one of the best tournaments ever or for a long a$$ time at a minimum people in power in boxing are ******.

Eddie is right, it's the finals, you're not holding anybody else up and Groves is the 1 seed and has looked the best fighter in the tournament. They'd have to be damn fools to replace him when Groves/Smith in England is the biggest fight they could have had

They just need to get these tournaments backed by a USA network. That’s what has ****** so much. Man some of the CW fights were the best I’ve seen in quite some time. I wish those fighters were exposed to a more universal audience. That’s my only grudge. And I bet it boils down to some ish with Schaefer’s past. I can’t believe know one is picking up , at the very least, the finals.
