  • Comments Thread For: Hearn: I'd Love To Have Tony Bellew Fight Andre Ward Next!

Eddie Hearn, promoter for former cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew (29-2-1, 19 KOs), would love to see his fighter take on light heavyweight champion Andre Ward (32-0, 16 KOs) in his next fight. Ward, 33 years old, retired from boxing last year and vacated all three of his lightweight titles. The decision came down a few months after gaining a stoppage win over Sergey Kovalev in their June rematch.

I don't even know why fighters claim to be "retired", when they know full well they'll be back. No doubt, Andre will return if the price and opponent is right.

I'd be so super shocked if that happened.

Andre stay retired, you're not missing anything. If u didn't want to do cruiserweight before why do it now?

So Ward won titles at 175. The other elite fighter at 175 is Stevenson. Stevenson already KO'd Bellew and was roundly criticized for even fighting such a bum. Superman is a cherry-picker for fighting him, but that fight is big enough to bring Ward out of retirement??? Wouldn't it be better to fight the someone who is so good he is called a cherry picker for fighting Bellew instead of Bellew?

Not too mention there is currently a cruiserweight tourney going on where the winner will be recognized as the best cw and will hold all four major belts.

All of this talk about Ward being interested in fighting Bellew definitely hurts Ward and his legacy. Champs, p4p champs are supposed to call out and try and fight the cherry pickers, not the cherries others have already picked. This honestly screams that Ward is scared to death of Adonis. Hey, maybe if Superman beats Jack bad enough, Ward will want to fight him too!

The only Ward needed by Bellew is the Medical Ward.

In Stevenson’s defense he would have been stripped if he didn’t. And Bellew was top 3 and had the WBC strap.. it’s a good test the waters fight for Ward

gassiev? lol....ward aint fighting a 6-4 24 year old HW.....im a ward fan and even i think thats unrealistic

it never ceases to amaze me the hate for ward....

the guy showed 168 whos boss...pursued a fight with golovkin and when he realized that wasnt happening he went to 175 to face a fellow top 5 p4p unbeatean champ...and fought him twice and stopped him......yet you want him in with a 6-4 HW beast.....but u were prob ok with golovkin ducking him right?

meanwhile golovkin aint moved up one division yet and still hasnt unified.....but its not ok for ward to go get a UK(kell brook/golovkin esque) payday against a cherrypicked cruiser opponent?
