How Much Does It Really Mean, To Be A World Champion Nowadays?

There are 4 belts per division, and we're always seeing undeserving fighters holding one of them. Not only that, but these sanctioning bodies are sus. What happened to there only being 1 world title per division, that every fighter was clamoring for? Most of the champions now don't even hold their belts for long. They beat a paper champion, then get exposed by some challenger right after. Worst case scenario, these champions just straight up duck each other. These belts are like participation trophies. Now, if you wanna be the man in your division, you gotta get 4 belts. It's like the Tri-Force or something. Each belt is only a piece of what it means to be the world champion.

I had to take a break from troll threads, and get serious for once.

People with belts aren't champions. It's the one who holds them all that's the true champion. Getting the belt imo just means your an elite above elite. Getting all 4 means your THE man

If you don't got one it still means a ton to the average guy.

If you got a name it means less.

If you are a superstar it means very little. Guys like Joshua & Canelo would barely hurt if not improve their upside by never holding a title ever again in their career & just making the best choices for opponents here on out & immediately vacating any title they happened to win.

I visit a boxing forum every day and would struggle to tell you who the formalchampions are in any given division/belt org. It's become little more than a treat for people who are already fans of a fighter but shouldn't influence actual rankings very much.

Yes they are, there are just categories of champions as compared to years past.

Belts are necessary for fighters to get sustainable income.
