I cant even remember a fight where I honestly didnt know who to pick at all. One minute I think Winky and then the next Taylor. One minute I think it will be close and then the next I think it will be a blowout.
One guy just made a thread about Winky being overrated and I honestly believe that he is a guy who is on the borderline of that and this fight will decide it. He's a very good, solid fighter who has a hard style to matchup with but people do talk to great about him now. That act like he always dominates when that is not true at all. Most of his fights are always close, even against bums. Just look at the Soliman fight and mostly any fight before that.
He got the big break against Mosley but Shane was much smaller and Shane was pretty much on the downside of his career by then. Thats not a big win like everyone thinks. Shane had just lost twice to Forrest, then looked like **** agaisnt Raul Marquez, and mostly everyone had Shane losing to Oscar. I remember when people talked about that fight before and after, they talked about 2 guys on the downside of there career who are past there primes.
Besides the Vargas fight, which was "half way" decent, when was the last time Shane had any kind of good performance? After Winky, he went the distance with Cruz and Estrada. Shane was finished when Vernon hit him with that big right hand in there 1st fight and hasnt been much since. Also, in the 2nd fight against Winky, he still almost won.
Winky killed Tito but Tito was also washed up by then, just coming out of a long retirment, and everyone also knew he was very flawed at that time. I remember when Winky beat Candelo but he didnt look that good and a writer wrote, "Winky has been called underrated so long that he's starting to look overrated".
Then you have Taylor, who is a kid with alot of talent but most of the time he looks uncoordinated and nothing like what a pound for pound fighter should look like. He's inconsistent and alot of times seems like he's dumb in the ring. He overjabs alot, he's mechanicale, and you can see almost all of his punches coming because he telegraphs everything. Taylor also came along at the perfect time when everyone at 160 sucks and Hopkins was no way near the same guy he was 5 years ago when he killed Tito, destroyed Holmes, and manhandled Echols. Taylor wouldnt have won a round against that Hopkins and we all know that.
The bottom line is that I think both of these guys are supremely talented but they also could be overrated. This fight should prove one of them as being extremley ovverated and one guy will get alot of fame but the sad part is that the guy who gets alot of fame, may still be overrated because of what I just wrote. On the other hand they could both be All Time Greats. Its hard to say. The bad part is I think we may still not know the answer to anything after Saturday because as I said, Winky doesnt blow anyone away, and Taylor is uncoordianted and wont blow a top guy away, so I think we could actually see another Taylor vs Hopkins, with basically no seperation between them.
