He kinda remind me of Ward in the beginning. I wasn't impressed with Ward in his early fights. But the bigger the challenge the better he got. You can see the talent in Stevenson but there's no challenge to bring out his toughness and IQ. If you're sparring Lomachenko and Crawford you have to have some skills.

This is a good comparison. Bumping this thread because Shakur Stevenson is the truth!

Obviously he's good, but I haven't seen the early signs of greatness in him. And in general if you're going the distance as much as he is at this level you need some Sweet Pea caliber boxing skills & I'm not seeing that at all. I bet virtually all his big fights/title fights will go 12.

Maybe he'll grow into it doe. Who knows. Most guys fall off eventually so I expect him to at some point also if I had to make a call on it today.

He has some power. Diaz is a tough guy but his last two fights before that were early knockouts.

He's shown more power lately, although that one don't realllllllly mean much cuz his opponent took the fight on 7 days notice & hadn't fought in 18mos or some sh^t iirc. Mainly doe I just hate seeing a prospect who's hovering around a 50% KO percentage at this level of the game.

Thats almost always a sign a guy is gonna be having a lot of distance fights when/if he reaches the top ten &/or gets a belt. I've seen a few guys legit get their "man strength" as they progress & as fans love to say, but mostly I think "man strength" is a bs concept. And I mean sh^t guys at this level don't even need man strength for them to get overwhelmed or getting them walking into something one too many times to end the fight early so its still saying you can't finish guys who are far beneath you skill-wise which isn't a attribute a lot of great fighter lacked in.

Man, I don't even remember writing this. Lol.

I saw a video of him and Devin Haney sparring. Both of them were going at it. That's a fight I would like to see in the future.

Shakur is clearly very talented, but is also really green. You can see him pausing to think, measure, experiment. It'll take him some time to settle in as a pro and get to the point where he takes fewer pauses and his fight IQ will just carry him through a fight.

Kid looks pretty damn good to me. I don’t know what people expect of a 21-year-old with ten (now eleven) professional fights. They put him in there versus a solid pro with a 24-1 record and he dominated with speed, skill, poise and crisp, hard shots. Time will tell, but I have no reason to believe he won’t be terrific, except that so few fighters are.
