Don't they realize ESPN did much more to promote GBP's and HBO's biggest pay-per-view last year, Canelo-GGG, than they did? ESPN First Take, and Sportscenter, covering the Canelo-GGG fight so many different times for months leading up to that fight, then First Take going to Vegas to do live shows from the fight, played a big part in all the PPV buys HBO and GBP did. And I'm sure ESPN was planning to do the same thing for the rematch. HBO and GBP are biting the hand that feeds them, and it makes no sense to me. If Eric Gomez and Peter Nelson are smart, they will call ESPN tomorrow and apologize, and say they weren't thinking straight, and that Loma-Linares is good to go for May 12th on ESPN.
They might think the Canelo-GGG replay is important right now, but when ESPN cuts coverage on it as payback for this, and the Canelo-GGG live pay-per-view buys dip 25% as a result, GBP and HBO aren't going to be worrying about the replay anymore, they will have bigger problems. They should play nice with ESPN, and ESPN will probably promote their fight for them again, and everyone's numbers will do well, and everyone will win, the sport, both networks, GBP, Linares, and the fans. I have no idea what GBP and HBO are thinking.
