Comments Thread For: Roach: No Fear of Lomachenko, He's Beatable and Already Lost!

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is rejecting some of the circulating talk that labels his star pupil, eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao (59-7-2, 38 KOs), as a heavy underdog in a potential fight with WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (10-1, 8 KOs).

I don't get this idea. That is a long way to move up for Loma, and a lot to expect out of a war torn body like Pac-Man.

What is the problem with unifying for Lomachenko? Or just moving up a class and letting his body grow into the next higher division? There is good fights to be made. Pacquiao should be focusing on some easier things if he is going to keep boxing. It is obvious he is on a farewell tour and there is no need to put his body through this type of training camp. He can get decent paydays without this.

It is just a fight which makes zero sense to me.

He is already at an advanced age and Pacquiao is nearly out the door.

The worst mistake a trainer or opponent can make when facing Loma is thinking he might not be hard to beat because he already lost. That mindset will just make it easier for Loma.

If you want to beat Loma, erase that loss he took from your memory. He has gotten far more seasoned as a pro. Instead of trying to emulate what Salido did, concentrate on your own strengths.

Very well put. Stylistically, Manny has never been nor will ever be like Salido.

I always defended Roach but remarks like this are indefensible.

I'd say Roach sees something in Loma's game that a southpaw could exploit, but we did just see what happened to Rigo. So yeah, maybe Roach things Pac will just power through him? Who would you even bring into camp to prep you for Loma? Zab?

If Roach believes Loma would be a walk in the park then I feel bad for Manny. Loma has developed so much from the Salido fight.

This is a great opportunity for Loma! Although Manny is old, Manny still sells! It will be Loma's 1st PPV fight, and I think Pacquiao will do for Loma, what Oscar did for Pacquiao!
