Linares was the WBC champion, but was demoted to "champion in recess" when he became injured and unable to defend the title. This guaranteed him a title shot in his first fight back.
However, in his first fight back, Linares didn't want to fight the WBC champion and preferred to fight the WBA champion. Even though that fight wouldn't be a WBC title fight, as the champion in recess facing the champion of another organization, Linares asked if the fight could be for the honorary diamond belt, with the winner being mandatory to the WBC champion.
The WBC said yes. Linares won. But still refused to fight the WBC champion, preferring a rematch with the former WBA champion.
And on it on it goes as Linares stalls and stalls. Finally the WBC has gotten fed up and said no more. Linares must fight the WBC champion next or lose his status. This has been going on for years.

Yes Linares decided to fight another legit established WBA world champion who was considered #2. at the time ( Anthony Crolla ) -- I gave him a pass because I knew Dejan Zlaticanin was a euro-bum that Linares would of cleaned up after beating Crolla ; Mikey came along and changed everything -- had Dejan Zlaticanin defended against a regular contender Linares would of got to him before Mikey and would of held both titles by now, but Zlaticanin made a big mistake taking on Mikey in his first title defense and got wrecked, and that reset things with the WBC.

Linares shouldn't be allowed to remain champion in recess for years on end, fighting over and over while refusing to fight the WBC champion. It's ridiculous.
Linares vs. Lomachenko is a good fight and if that makes Linares more money than fighting Garcia, I wouldn't fault him for taking the fight, but his WBC status should be revoked.

Glad to see the WBC mandate this fight! Linares vs. Loma was never the plan! The plan is Loma vs. Beltran, and Mikey vs. Linares! Bob wants Loma to have a belt for negotiations, but he is hoping, like I am, that Mikey wins the fight! If Mikey plays hardball, you'll see Loma vs. Pacquiao! Mark it down!
