  • Comments Thread For: Hatton on Khan: Hard To Recover From 3 Horrendous Knockouts

Former world champion Ricky Hatton is hoping that his close friend, Amir Khan (31-4, 19 KOs), is able to recover from his last disastrous defeat in the ring. Khan has been out of the ring since getting knocked out cold, at a catch-weight of 155-pounds, by Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in May of 2016 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

2 of those were from years ago though.

Khan will be fine but he needs to get a new trainer. Virgil is a good trainer but not the right one for Khan.

What happens to guys once they get knocked out. Is it just a loss of confidence?

it's debatable among trainers. Some trainers think that a glass jaw is just a state of minid. Teddy Atlas is one of them IIRC. So if you're of that mind state, then yeah once you get KO'd you will be much more likely to get KO'd again.

The theory does have some credibility when you notice that when a boxer takes an L a lot of times they take a few after that in short succession.

Khan should box and beat the likes of L.G.and look good doing it and this is what this contest is all about but so should any half decent welterweight out there. If Khan steps up and fights any top ten welter he will fail.He may look o.k. for a few rounds but danger is never far away for Khans chin. It's obvious what Hearn and Khans intentions are call out all the top guys at welter fight none and hope that a weightweakend Brook will be silly enough to boil down for a cash out fight.

Ricky is right , I always remember Shawn O'grady once said 'a fighters chin is like a cash register keep taping the buttons and it opens' ....with Khan the taping has become much less.......watch!

My bro, once you get knocked out the wiring in the brain becomes weaker. This does not mean you will be knocked out next but you are proned to get knock out again.

Self belief is important in any walk of life. In a sport like boxing it's not enough - you have to have supreme confidence.

I'm thinking that when boxers lose they need to talk themselves into believing that it was just bad luck/a bad night/ they didn't prepare properly/ were injured / had a bad camp / were weight drained / were fighting at too high of a weight. We've heard all these reasons hundreds of times before.

They have to compartmentalize the loss and believe they are invincible again - which is hard to do when there's evidence to the contrary. Sometimes they gain the confidence by recreating a new version of themselves. So it's like "the old version of me had a fault but now this new training regime, this new weight, my new trainer means that there is a newer/better version of me. I've heard that a hundred times as well.

And then after a few losses some boxers might accept their secondary status and become gatekeepers. They then know that they will be in hard with a good chance to lose but are hopefully getting a good purse.

Good point. A bit like having a heart attack of a stroke - once you've had one you're more likely to have a second one. Unfair but there it is.
