That's true, but it would never happen.

Look how many lower divisions we have - that is a lot of sanctioning fees for belts, as well as being an easier selling point for smaller guys when they are 'multiple weight champions' for moving up a WHOLE 3 pounds.

Boxing is a vehicle to make money for powerful men, nothing more. The best fighting the best is a great concept, but if a promoter had the choice of putting his champion against a bum for $20 million or a top contender for $2 million, he is going to go for the option that makes the most money, every time.

Because each of those sports have a monopoly, so the best are competing for the same entity. Nobody is being forced to participate.

The premise of this thread is that we hold a tournament and require every top fighter to participate. How do we accomplish that without legalizing slavery?

        in an ideal world

but too many promoters hustling the fighters who are threatened by wbss

wbss has set prize money which means no need for fighters to have promoters,

Boxers PAY MONEY to HOLD BELTS.

Why??? The BELTS don't mean a thing anymore.

If boxers were smart they would sort of form a union where they only valued ONE BELT ORG. Simply ignore the others....that EASY lmao

Yes Absolutely. It would be the rise of Boxing 100%. Its exactly what the sport needs but it will never happen

I definitely am of the opinion most tournaments suck, but I'm really impressed with what the WBSS is doing in every regard besides getting a US TV deal basically. I'm curious what the next cycle of tournaments look like off of what they have & are still learning with this first go around.

But yea tournaments are only as good as the guys in it, but I think you could make it so its a legit thing in boxing that a tournament happens in every division every couple years to figure out who's the best.

This. And this should be what boxing focuses on doing in the coming years. If WBSS becomes a bigger more important thing idk, but clearly the WBSS or something like it is needed to make the best fights happen on a regular basis without all the normal bs thats stopping the best from fighting the best. There are far too many hands in the cookie jar in boxing. Boxing needs a serious downsizing in people with power in this sport or the guys with power need to be getting together & joining their power to have more ability to do bigger things like boxing needs.

I've theorized before that I don't see why promoters could create some bigger promotional banner with the top x promoters. With the caliber of fights they could put on everyone could be getting paid still & probably paid better with fewer gaps with how mainstream that'd be. It would seemingly make more sense then needing to constantly groom guys on the way up, marinate fights & then blow your wad at the exact right moment you think you can get paid the most.

Idk just thinking out loud, but there has gotta be a better way for the money people, the boxers & the fans then the current bs method.

the sport would be brilliant if that was the case but theres too many divas around who want to protect their 0 at all costs. the fans are part of the problem when it comes to that mindset too.

Belts are less valuable then they've ever been, but they still mean something. Go ask some mfers who don't got one anymore who didn't make a name for themselves or better yet go ask someone who's never held one at all.

This is a good idea in theory, but is it even possible to create a world-wide union in a sport where the floor can be ~$100 for a bout in a well to do country & probably far less in a less well to do country? Idk, but I'd bet against it.

Might be able to do it nationally, but even then getting guys who are making a million+ a fight vs $200k a fight vs $35k a fight vs $10k a fight vs $1k or less a fight all lined up in agreement seems like a rough job. When there is so much disparity in pay its hard to form unions as I understand it.

You are absolutely spot on... Less people with power is key, and it's not like this would be getting rid of guys building themselves up but focusing on getting the top guys to actually compete with one another. There are ways to accomplish this but their would have to be changes in the sport and how it's runned

A new promoter could "sell" that pitch. Whether it's PBC, Mayweather Prom., Frank Warren, or a new promotion altogether.

Become big enough...and have enough fighters signed/aligned...Now you make the rules
