blah blah this fight goes down in vegas and nowhere else. NYC will be a pro GGG crowd and financially it makes no sense. but fck all that fans shouldn't be focused on the business part of boxing since we not gettin a check.

Dallas maybe or would that be too much like a "home field" for Canelo?

Yawn of a story. Who really cares where it happens? I want to see the fight, the politics are up for debate afterwards.

Joshua sells 90.000 tickets, but the gate revenue is somewhere around 8-10 M$. If they would like to get a 27M$ gate, they should average 300$/ticket.

That is a big part of it. Madison Square Garden would have to come up with more money than Las Vegas, net of taxes, to entice GB to stage the fight in NYC. It simply can't compete financially with Las Vegas. And it is Cinco de Mayo -- a big Mexican American day of celebration. I don't know how many Mexicans and Mexican Americans there are in the New York area, but Vegas is close to California, Colorado, Arizona and other population centers with heavy Mexican influence. Someone might point out that NYC area has a big Puerto Rican population, but the PR community has not exactly embraced Canelo in the same way perhaps as most Mexicans embraced Cotto, Arguello or Duran.

It makes sense from Golovkin's perspective because the Nevada State Athletic Commission is inept or corrupt. He's likely to get a fairer decision in New York..

The problem with the Dallas location for fans is that after flying to Dallas to see the fight you are still in Dallas when the fight is over. That is not exactly a destination center for the high rollers. Vegas and NYC have a big edge in that department.

How about neutral grounds like... Montreal, Canada? (let the hate begin..)

It will always come down to the taxes... That's why Vegas wins out.

NY will have to put up a massive bid to compensate for that.

I live in NY and it's a real boxing city with real fans. That's why a boxing nerd fight like Loma vs Rigo sold out almost immediately. There's also more Mexicans here than you'd think. Not to the extent of Cali or Texas but enough that Canelo would have a good representation of fans there. He had plenty of fans for his press conferences in NY vs mayweather and Cotto. As far as 5 de mayo weekend. Is that really a holiday that real Mexicans celebrate like that? I mainly just see white people using it as an excuse to drink tequila. Lol. Either way, NY has plenty of 5 de mayo parties that weekend.
