For example, I've heard from posters here that Murat Gassiev has a strong chin due to his square head/jaw shape, despite having never having his chin tested. Likewise, I've heard that fighter with a pointed chin (Anthony Joshua, Amir Khan, Lawrence okolie) are chinny due to their facial shapes. What do you guys think of this?
Does the shape of your face determine whether you can take a punch?

Gassiev's chin was tested against Dennis Lebedev and never once he was wobbled or stunned. And now we will see that against a bit bigger puncher in Dorticos, and would likely IMO hold up.For example, I've heard from posters here that Murat Gassiev has a strong chin due to his square head/jaw shape, despite having never having his chin tested. There was actually a scientifically proven theory to this and a previous thread was on here somewhere regarding this subject I can't remember the thread poster but you should be able to search it.
If I remember rightly the rounder the face the more likelyhood of having a better punch resistance which explains why vitali had an iron chin and alas with his more angular face was chinny. Other good chins with a similar facetype are tua Golovkin canelo etc
This was the thread I beleive https://www.boxingscene.com/forums/s...d.php?t=762240Last edited by PsychoPat; 02-01-2018, 11:22 AM.Comment

I think facial shape/chin construction probably does have some play in punch resistance. I'd doubt its an end all be all 100% thing, but I'm sure it plays a part. The shape of cars can play a part in speed & can help or hurt the amount of damage it takes so I could see this being true in more fields including the human body.
What the good or bad dynamics are might be up for debate, but I'm sure they exist...although again nothing is 100% & maybe being lesser in this one thing over here but having a much superior this other thing over there equals things out to.
Interesting topic, although with the lack of quality control in boxing it seems like it'd be hard to prove or disprove this. Like ideally to prove or disprove it you'd need to take x number of cats with different types of faces/chins into some lab & have them take strikes from some sorta machine & keep upping the power of the strike til it knocked them the f#ck out of something f#cking nuts like that. Lmfao. Would make for some hilarious videos I imagine w/e ended up being proven or not proven.Comment
