When was the last time Don King put on a card? He has a few fighters (Stiverne, Amir Imam, Carlos Molina the HVY) but they've all been a part of other promotions cards. He actually won the purse bid for Vanes vs Sulecki. So he actually has to put on this event, right?

His contract was with Al Haymon, not PBC. PBC is just the name of a TV show. Back then, Al didn't have the leverage yet to co-brand Showtime's events as PBC, but that doesn't change which fights Al got for Vanes.

When PBC first launched, Showtime resisted having to brand their telecasts as PBC, but Al created enough leverage with the time buys to get Showtime to #1 - massively increase their budget and #2 - co-brand as PBC.

That was a smart thing to do. The only non PBC fights on SHO are ShoBox shows and a few of those were PBC.
