All major promoters are control freaks. This is a very very tough business. A few wrong moves and you can go from having a lot of power to being out of business. It is a daily battle to gain as much control as possible.

Complicates nothing really if both are genuine about putting on the best fights for fans. And Warren has BT behind him, which is overtaking, if it hasn't already, Sky. Their UFC deal was what sealed Sky's fate. Sky isn't the Box Office giant it once was.

If AJ vs. Fury isn't an in house fight, of course it complicates things. That is how boxing works.

To be fair, i hate Eddie Hearn (like most nowadays lol) but if you were advising Fury right now, Matchroom is blatantly the best place for Fury to rebuild... They have dates on Sky, TV or PPV, when they want them. Have quite a deep HW stable, and have the ultimate cash cow / HW right now in Joshua. Seems nuts to go with Warren right now, but Fury is definitely nuts if nothing else I guess.

The safe move is hope and pray you can beat one fringe contender and then cash out against AJ. In that scenario, yes, he should have signed with Matchroom.

But if he's capable of beating several fringe contenders, and in his mind thinks he has any prayer of beating AJ, I can understand signing with Warren. There's no doubt if he signed with Matchroom the plan would be to feed him to AJ as quickly as possible for fear of him getting knocked out by a fringe contender. So it really wouldn't be in Matchroom's best interest to give Fury the best shot possible to beat AJ.

By signing with Warren, it does complicate making the AJ fight, but it also ensures that his side benefits most by him winning. If he signed with Matchroom, his side would benefit most by him losing and that's always a tricky situation to be in.

But yea OBVIOUSLY Fury signing with a non-Hearn promoter complicates things. I don't think that is really even news. That said its only unmakeable if they don't wanna make it cuz there'll be enough money for everyone if Fury can notch a couple wins together.

Exactly. If you read the comments that Hearn and Warren have made about Fury you can see the two approaches that have been made to him.

Hearn has dangled a quick route to Joshua, too quick for Fury to have any realistic chance of regaining sharpness. But a guaranteed cash out no doubt on Hearn's terms.

Warren has offered to build Fury up over the medium term, getting him back to peak fitness. He would still then have to strike a deal with Joshua but he'd be in a stronger position, especially if he can keep himself in the public eye, demonstrate his own capacity to sell tickets and attract viewers etc.

Fury would be foolish to sign with Matchroom if he's in it for the long haul.
