Comments Thread For: Parker Plans For Fast Pace, Movement, Angles, Speed With Joshua

WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (24-0, 18 KOs) is putting together what he believes will be the perfect strategy to defeat IBF, IBO, WBA world champion Anthony Joshua (20-0, 20 KOs). The two undefeated beltholders will collide on March 31, at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

Has Parker not watched himself box?

Easier said than done. I think Parker has the ability to pull it off but not the skill set. He can move reasonably well, has quick hands, can go 12 rounds if needed, might even be able to out work Joshua. But he doesn't counter punch which makes boxing on the back foot difficult as it forces you to be overly defensive with no way to mount at attack when your opponent is attacking.

Parker has been lucky that Takam, Ruiz Jr and Fury offensively did very little. Takam and Ruiz Jr fight in spurts, Fury barely threw a power punch. That allowed Parker opportunities to stop moving, set and throw. Against a fighter who brings more offense he's going to struggle to find opportunities to throw.

If Parker believes Joshua's chin is weak then why the movement and the speed. It seems as though he wants to box and run to a comfortable decision. Parker supposedly has a granite chin so why not take a risk and get rid of Joshua fast?

I think Parker has to be very aggressive in this fight to win it. Say what you like about AJ but he's shown that he can box at range, and his size advantage will be telling if Parker tries to box and move. Parker strikes me as having fairly short arms and needs to get in close where he can let his hand-speed advantage tell.

Setting a fast pace is a good idea as long as your chin can hold out. Even if you get dropped a few times as long as you can get back up setting a fast pace will still workout for you coz Joshua will definitely gas at about round 5 or 6. That's when you take him out if you're still standing.

However, as we saw against Klitschko, Joshua has very good survival skills and he proved to be very good at slipping punches when he is totally commited to that. Guy slipped A LOT of monster left hooks from Klitschko even though his legs were totally shot.

So, better be able to survive getting knocked down a few times, and better finish him when he gasses. That's how you'll win, it's the ONLY way you'll win.

This was my initial thought too. After all that talk about AJ's weak chin and his granite one, he wants to move and box now? Lol.
