  • Comments Thread For: Is Keith Thurman Doing The Right Thing By Making Spence Wait?

By Andreas Hale - When Showtime unveiled it's schedule for the first half of 2018, there were some who wondered who WBA & WBC welterweight champion Keith Thurman would be facing as his opponent for his return to the ring on May 19th. With Errol Spence slated for a June 16th defense of his IBF title, it certainly wouldn't be him. But could it happen later on in 2018?...

Thurman did me proud by shutting up cracky Garcia and handing Cherry his first official loss. The fight with Spence has to happen next year though. As some are saying it will, but until signed and sealed I don't acknowledge it.

        '' I got a '0' and I aint afraid to let it go! ''

'Sometime' Keith Thurman already lost: Errol ' The Truth' Spence has a win over this clown ( if respect among your peers means anything ) its like the old days when honor meant something, you are called out for a duel and you don't show up by sundown -- only this time Keiph had a whole year and still refused to fight.

We don't need to see this fight anymore, I know 'The Truth'. Keith come find your balls, Errol Spence has them.

Come on Andreas Hale are you serious? What is the point of Thurman fighting Porter and Garcia again? They were close but clear fights. The Porter fight was somewhat entertaining but to say he has to beat them again in order to stay at the top at 147 is ludicrous. Weve already seen those fights therefore I would much rather see him fight Jessie Vargas, Horn, Pacquiao, or Crawford. All these people on here complaining about Top Rank rematches will be cheering when Thurman Porter or Thurman Garcia is announced I guarantee you that. If they cqnt make a deal with Top Rank then I wouldnt mind seeing those rematches but lets not act like those are the only fights that he has to fight to remain at the top, although unfortunately those may be the only good options for him. He says Jessie Vargas isnt next so I wonder what bum hes going to face. Probqbly Aaron Herrera or Samuel Vargas smh Thurman went from hero to zero very quickly just like the rest of the Pbc bums. Al Haymon is the worst advisor in the game, look at how many careers went downhill under his watch

That's the biggest issue for Thurman.

Spence is going to keep getting better and more experienced every fight.

The right time to face him is right now. A year full of tune ups for Thurman is going to backfire.

Spence won't be around at 147 if Thurman waits for too long. And at 154 I don't see any chance for Thurman.

I do agree with a couple things in tis article. I think Thurman is definitely following the Money May blueprint and needling his detractors a little bit. The entire Pbc just seems like one big company where everyone wants to be like Money Mayweather. Only problem is Mayweather was already built into a ppv star before he became Money Mayweather. These guys are still on the come up and think they can use the Money May blueprint without fighting top opponents and it just doesnt work that way. Thurman will be out a year by the time he comes back so after his tune up he should be trying to get the biggest fight possible, not keep fighting bums or he will keep stagnating. I dont see the benefit of letting the Spence fight marinate unless they both fight top opponents to build up the hype real big. The Pbc formula of having 1 tough fight out of every 3 or 4 keeps their careers stagnent and doesnt allow for the hype to build enough to make it worth marinating. This is why im cancelling showtime because most Pbc fighters just want to cherry pick every fight. Mikey Garcia could have fought Linares or Easter and he ends up fighting Lipinets who is probably the worst champion in all of boxing. Who are these frauds trying to fool?

Theres a reason that not one single Pbc fighters has developed into a ppv attraction despite the deep pool of talent. Its because all the Pbc fighters want to cherry pick every fight and they arent fighting often enough. Inactivity + weak opposition = career stagnation according to my calculations. Al Haymon should have got **** canned a long time ago

Backfire in the ring... perhaps. But it won't backfire financially. The fight is worth WAYYYYYYYY more a year from now than it's worth right now.
