Last week BoxingScene.com first reported that lightweight contender Jamel Herring (16-2) had signed a promotional agreement with Las Vegas based promoter Top Rank and that he would make his promotional debut on the Terence Crawford-Jeff Horn undercard in April. Good move, even the top Pbc fighters like Spence Thurman and Garcia are only getting 1 fight a year. Theres just not enough cards on Showtime to support a stable of 200 fighters. With Top Rank he will get 3 fights a year like most of their fighters do. I expect to see more Pbc fighters following suit

I definitely think 200 is too many but I also think those top guys only fight once or twice per year b/c they're making so much money compared to other guys. Spence will be fighting 3 times this year, so drop that (he made 1.2 million last fight). He had to wait on Kell but those days are over now. He'll stay pretty active until he becomes PPV quality.

But those other two have made a minimum of $1 million for about 4 or 5 straight fights. Thurman and Garcia both made $2 million in their last fight. You don't need three fights pulling in that money without a path to PPV.

Overall, I see the roster pretty much staying the same with just a few more guys signing deals, like what we saw with Jacobs. Out of 200 only about 50 or so are moving any conversations. The rest are fortunate to be making money.

Check the roster of any promoter. Almost all their top guys only fight 2 per year. The guy who's more active recently is Loma. Can't think of anybody else. Who is fighting 3 times per year consistently?

(1) Indongo was Crawford's tenth title fight, so making $2 million isn't all that crazy.

(2) Crawford fought 2 times in 2015 (Durlome, Jean); 3 times in 2016 (Postol & two scrubs; Jon Molina, Hank Lundy); and 2 times in 2017 (Diaz, Indongo).

(3) He'll only fight twice this year, which is why his scrap is in April.

(Just to make a broader point. Crawford sold 12.1k tickets for a fight in Omaha in his tenth title fight against Indongo (all of his fight have been between 10k - 12k there; [12,121], [11,270], [11,020], [11,127], [10,943]. Crawford sold 8k tickets at the Garden against Diaz.

Spence just sold 12.1k tickets at Barclays in his first defense. It wouldn't surprise me to see his purse go up in his next fight.)

We really don't know if Spence's increased activity will hurt someone else. We'll just have to wait and see.

Also you just named a bunch of guys who are "part time" boxers. Only two of the guys you named are trying to stay active (Jacobs, Charlo, and maybe Bathelemy) the rest of those guys aren't trying to fight more. And Danny and Charlo are chasing money at the top of that division, so they're being stalled. Just keep things in context.

Is 200 fighters too many? I think so, but let's not act like the PBC guys are the only ones fighting 2 times per year.

Exactly, Crawford only fought 3 times (in a year) once since 2014. Why? Because he fought 2/3 scrubs that year (2016). These guys try to play ****** on here like they don't know the game.
