Comments Thread For: SHO's Espinoza Explains Thurman-TBA, Stevenson-Jack Double

It was announced by Showtime that on May 19th, Keith Thurman is making his return to the ring in Brooklyn, New York at the Barclay Center - making the first defense of his unified WBC, WBA welterweight crown since joining the titles last March, at the same venue, with a decision over Danny Garcia. Also that same evening, WBC light heavyweight titlist Adonis Stevenson will be taking on Badou Jack at a venue to be announced in Canada.

Espinoza explained it as clearly as he could given his position at Showtime. There are not many Saturday nights were there are no good sporting events on. The only reason this matters is because any champ facing the legendary TBA and a 40 year old making his third defense in the past three years cannot compete against any big sporting event. A better card could. Espinoza isn't going to say, "yea, well this card kind of sucks, and May 19th looked like the Saturday with as little competition as possible."
