Comments Thread For: Porter, Russell, Joshua-Parker Also in Play For Showtime Schedule

While there were over two dozen boxers in attendance at Cipriani's in New York City on Wednesday as Showtime announced their upcoming boxing schedule, it doesn't mean that some of those who were absent are not a part of the networks plans. Stephen Espinoza, who was just recently elevated as the President of Showtime Sports and Event Programming, told BoxingScene.com:

Because he's a world-level fighter, who isn't really all that impressed with fighting.

$500k+ per fight (with taxes, Haymon, and camp expenses basically his own burden), and he's basically been living on $300k per year.

For a talented guy, who doesn't really take punishment, though still dedicated to do the work for a sport he's not enamored with, that's an alright deal.

If he fought more maybe he’d grow his brand and make more.
            But that’s just crazy.

because he isn't interested in fighting unless it's big money and he's not in a prominent enough division to get two dates out of showtime each year.

He doesn't have the boxing bug; how he got to be where he is without it is beyond me, but that's the current situation.

He doesn't want to fight more, and he's cool with the money that he's getting.

                Odd, but that's his play

Has nothing to do with being a fan or not. A question was asked. An answer was given. If Russell wants to fight more often, he needs to bring his price down and be willing to accept some of these SHO co-feature slows that only pay a few hundred thousand.
