  • Comments Thread For: Mikey Garcia: The Goal - Become The Best of This Generation!

Three division world champion Mikey Garcia has a big goal in mind - he wants to take over as the best fighter of this generation, after the recent retirement of Floyd Mayweather Jr. On March 10 from the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas - Garcia (37-0, 30 KOs) will attempt to capture a world title in a fourth weight class when he takes on unbeaten IBF junior welterweight champion Sergey Lipinets (13-0, 10 KOs), who is making his first title defense.

Well he has the big 0, and the nice tally of wins, but not a good decade+ at all from 2006 to 2018. Very good looking fighter in the ring, and obviously talented, but no name to show for, no big win in 12 years as a pro. That's a rough start and a big hole he's in if he wants to be the best of his gen. Lightweight is very weak too, there's no one there to help him with his goal, certainly not Linares.

Sky’s the limit with this kid. Solid defense and never out of position. Not sure who could stop him within two weight classes.

Starting to think the Garcia family spent too much time with Floyd lol The more I think about some of their interviews (since Maidana) and Mikey's recent comments, they have become full blown "businessmen". Not hating, I think the kid has PPV potential. It's just an observation from a far.

its because the gracia's knows mikey lost a lot of years so now they're trying to make up for those lost years. but seeing how mikey is approaching his new fond career as a free agent, i dont see him becoming a huge ppv star, etc.

and he didnt even dominate the fight too!

mikey is nothing special. yes, the kid can box, he does things the right way, but a lot of people also do things the right way, it doesnt mean they're great at it.

i just dont see anything special in mikey. the broner fight, i thought this was gonna be the fight where mikey comes out and show that he's a future star, but instead he bored me to death against a guy who barely threw anything.

Best of this generation if you exclude, Loma, Crawford, Spence, Ward, GGG, Canelo, AJ, and Wilder, to name a few.
