Comments Thread For: Eddie Hearn Smiles: I Think We've Got Deontay Wilder Cornered!

Eddie Hearn, promoter for IBF, IBO, WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (20-0, 20 KOs), believes they have finally got WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (39-0, 38 KOs) boxed in. As long as everyone wins their upcoming fights, Hearn believes Wilder will be forced to fight one of his boxers before the year is out.

Wilder going to be forced to fight Whyte and won't be making $4 mil+ to do it. What an idiot turning down Hearns offer.

Gotta stop taking everything Hearn says at face value. He's a promoter. Twisting the truth is his profession.

There are a few holes in his story. #1 - Even if the WBC was incredibly strict about Wilder's next mandatory (and they're rarely strict about mandatories), mandatories at heavyweight are 12 months, not 9 months. Eddie knows that. He's being purposely misleading. #2 - Whyte is not the mandatory. He just happens to be ranked first. Big difference. He hasn't won a final eliminator and hasn't been declared the mandatory. He'll likely have to face Breazeale to become mandatory. Eddie knows that. He's being purposely misleading.

Further, even if Whyte does eventually become the mandatory, Wilder's cut of the purse bid will be more, and it'll be a cleaner offer, than what Hearn was offering before. Which is one of the reasons Hearn's offer wasn't enticing.

I know you love AJ and that's great. You're a loyal fan. But try to keep in mind that just because AJ is a great fighter than you enjoy watching, it doesn't mean everything his promoter says is the truth or framed fairly.

Ortiz is a much worthy opp than Parker that’s why aj ducked him when Hearn had him.

This is a Bob Arum type move. Fight whyte for nothing or fight Joshua for a bit more than nothing. I'm not saying Wilder deserves 50% like he's asking, but Hearn seems to have learnt a few tricks from Don King.

We Be Crooks will happily accomodate whatever suits them and their bank account.
