That was debunked years ago. Everlast manufacturer denied that the gloves were illegal. When the comission approved the normal puncher gloves, Mayweather still said no.

Mayweather payed Maidana more than 1 million so he would use pillow gloves.

He tried to deny Pacquiao his horse hair gloves too. And didn't allow McGregor to use horse hair gloves neither.
