My Reaction to the Main Event and Co-feature
Errol Spence Jr vs Lamont Peterson: I expected Spence to stop Peterson, but I didn't expect the latter to fight as badly as he did. Seriously, who told Peterson it'd be a good idea to fight in the pocket against a guy who's both bigger and stronger than him? Dude straight up pulled a Broner. He stood there with a high guard, and hardly let his hands go, allowing Spence to tag him nonstop.
Robert Easter Jr vs Javier Fortuna: I can't tell if Easter is either bad at maintaining his comfortable distance, or if he chooses to fight like the shorter guy. He's probably one of, if not, the biggest fighter in his weight class, yet he's always fighting in the pocket. I think the point deduction on Fortuna was a bit excessive. I mean, I can't imagine it'd be very easy to land legal punches on someone who's bent over and turned their back to you. Besides that, Fortuna fought well, but might be having issues making weight. If him missing weight wasn't just a fluke, he'd probably be better off moving up. As for Easter, this is the 3rd time he got by with a close decision. You could argue that Comey, Shafikov and Fortuna won. If he struggled that much against nobodies, then I don't see how he's gonna beat Jorge Linares and/or Mikey Garcia.
